You’ve just gotten engaged and now it’s time to start every girls fantasy journey to finding her dream wedding gown. 9-12 Month marker:

This is the point where you will begin looking for prospective wedding gowns in bridal magazines and online. Start envisioning how you’d like to look, keeping in mind the venue you’ve chosen. Start researching the various wedding gown styles and lingo. Set a budget, generally the gown costs around 10% of the total wedding budget. Remember, this 10% should include the cost of your gown, accessories and alterations combined.

8 Month marker:

At this point you’ll want to start making appointments to try gowns on. Select two to four salons that carry designers whom you feel match your individual style. Not really sure about how reliable your local bridal salons are? Then ask other brides for recommendations or check salon reviews online. When it’s time to go to your appointments, keep your entourage to a minimum of three people. Be sure to bring a strapless bra, wear modest underwear and bring heels. Takes notes on which styles you love and keep trying on gowns till you find a select few that may be the one.

7 Month marker:

Now is the time to start getting serious. You should have narrowed down your wedding gown choices to a select few. Make second appointments with the salons to try on the gowns again. Don’t feel like you’re being a bother, try them on as many times as you need to, to make a decision. Only this time try to make the trip alone. This way you can ultimately make the final decision based on what you want. While there ask to try on coordinating accessories to help you make a final decision.

6 Month marker:

Now is when you’ll want to order your dream wedding gown. Be sure to get the following written into the contract somewhere: style number, color, size, designers name, approximate delivery date, the amount you put down on the dress, the remaining amount and date it is due by. Don’t forget to ask about any cancellation policies in case you change your mind at the last-minute about the gown.

5 Month marker:

You will want to call the salon to get a confirmation on your wedding gown’s delivery date at the five month point. You’ll also want to choose all the accessories you plan to wear with your gown. This is also the point where you would begin your wedding gown diet, or if you feel you’re the right weight, maintain it.

6 Week marker:

You haven’t seen your wedding gown in a long time, and now is the point where you schedule your first dress fitting. You should bring one honest family member or friend to the first fitting; make sure it’s someone who has a sharp eye and will be honest. Be sure to remember to bring your accessories as well.

4-5 Week marker:

At this time you’ll be schedule your second and/or third wedding gown fitting. It’s here that you will make sure all alterations are perfect: the length, the fitting to your body, are you able to breath and move, etc. Check over all bead work and make sure the length skims right above the top of your toes. Keep going in for fittings until your gown is absolutely perfect and is up to your standards. Your last fitting is when you will want to bring your maid of honor because it is at this time she will learn how to bustle your gown. Make sure she does it enough times to remember how to bustle it the day of the wedding.

3 Week marker:

Three weeks before the wedding you’ll want to schedule the date and time you’re going to go pick up you wedding gown. It’s recommended that you try the gown on one last time to double-check everything. If your gown looks perfect to you, then take it home. Once you get your wedding gown home lay it out somewhere flat, removing all the wrinkles. Be sure wherever you store it that it will be safe from pets, young children and smoke.
